FAQ’s
Roofing & General Warranty FAQs
If I sell my home, does the warranty transfer to the new buyer?
Owens Corning Preferred and Platinum warranties are generally transferable to the next homeowner, which is a great selling feature for your house. However, the manufacturer usually requires the transfer to be registered within 60 days of the real estate closing, and a small transfer fee may apply. Contact us, and we can guide you through the specific transfer process for your system.
Do I need to register my warranty myself?
For enhanced Owens Corning roofing systems (Preferred and Platinum), WeatherSeal Roofing takes care of the registration for you once your project is paid in full. You will receive your official warranty documents directly from the manufacturer. For our in-house gutter and chimney chase cover warranties, your final paid invoice serves as your proof of warranty.
Is storm damage (like hail or fallen trees) covered by this warranty?
Manufacturer and workmanship warranties cover material defects and errors in installation. "Acts of God," such as hail damage, severe hurricane-force winds (above the rated MPH), or falling tree branches, are considered weather events and should be routed through your Homeowner’s Insurance policy.
What actions could accidentally void my roofing warranty?
The most common things that void a roofing warranty include:
- Installing a satellite dish directly through the shingles without proper flashing.
- Having an uncertified contractor or handyman make alterations or repairs to the roof.
- Installing solar panels incorrectly.
- Pressure washing your shingles (this strips the protective granules).
- Note: Always give us a call before attaching anything to your new roof so we can advise you on how to do it safely!
Will I be charged for a warranty inspection if I request one?
If we come out and determine the issue is covered under your WeatherSeal workmanship guarantee or the manufacturer's material warranty, the inspection and repair are fully covered. However, if the issue is caused by something outside the scope of the warranty (like animal damage, an aging skylight we didn't install, or a storm), a standard service fee may apply. We will always communicate this with you up front.
If I install solar panels later, will it void my Owens Corning roof warranty?
However, damage caused by the solar installer, mounting equipment, roof penetrations, or improper flashing would not be covered by WeatherSeal Roofing or Owens Corning. Solar equipment is also separate from the roofing warranty. Before installing solar, we recommend contacting us so we can help protect the integrity of your roof.
Will lack of maintenance void my seamless gutter warranty?
Our warranty guarantees the quality of the aluminum and the craftsmanship of the installation. However, gutters must be kept reasonably clean to function. Damage caused by severe clogs, overflowing water, or ice buildup due to neglected maintenance is not covered. If you have heavy tree coverage, we highly recommend asking us about adding Gutter Guards to protect your system.
Can leaning a ladder against my gutters void the warranty?
Seamless aluminum is incredibly durable against weather, but the concentrated weight of a person on a ladder can easily crush or dent the gutter profile. This type of physical damage is not covered under the material or craftsmanship warranty. Please use ladder stand-offs when accessing your roof.
